THE TRUE STORY BEHIND SPECTRUM’S CUSTOM-DESIGNED AND CUSTOM-FABRICATED SPHERICAL CMF56 TURBO JET ENGINE-INSPIRED ICE PRESS
Spectrum Aerospace is highly respected in the aviation industry for our quality repairs and overhauls and consistently outstanding customer service – so why exactly did we venture into creating these completely awesome limited edition ice presses?
In general, we like to create unique, creative items to give away to our customers as a thank you for doing business with us! Spectrum receives accolades for our T-shirt designs, hand-made soaps and other give-away items, which we appropriately refer to as Spectrum Swag. A lot of creative genius juice goes into these ideas.
The specific backstory behind the Spectrum ice press emerged in a far off land, at a moment in time when Lars was on holiday off the coast of Mozambique talking with local fishermen at a rather primitive, but picturesque tiki bar, and wishing he had a large chunk of ice to freshen his liquor … OK, so maybe that story isn’t quite accurate, but it sounded ruggedly Hemingway-esque.
The real story does include Lars sitting at a bar on the west coast – of the United States. He ordered a top shelf spirit on the rocks and it came sliding to him across the bar with a giant sphere of ice floating in it like a glistening iceberg. Of course he inquired about it to the bartender, who proudly brought over a rather plain-looking metal contraption. After ordering a few additional drinks (only for the purpose of watching the press in action), and investigating its mechanics, the Lars Dirks creative gears kicked into action and the germination of the turbo fan jet engine ice press evolved. Lars and Spectrum’s Engineering and Machine Shop Manager, Nick Newton perfected the design. Soon these wonders of aviation machining were born (also spawning similar aluminum shot glasses). We periodically fabricate a limited number in our machine shop as gifts for our premier customers.
The moral of the story is: become a premier customer of Spectrum Aerospace and you too may one day receive a limited edition Spectrum Ice Press.
